Word and Character Counter

Whether you are writing an article, a tweet or a paper with a minimum word count, the counter instantly tells you the number of words, characters, sentences and paragraphs, estimates reading and speaking time, and shows the most repeated words.

This tool runs entirely in your browser, and what you type is never sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Type or paste your text into the box.
  2. The numbers update automatically as you write.
  3. Check the most repeated words to avoid overusing a single word.

How are words counted?

A word is a continuous run of letters or digits. Arabic and English words are counted the same way, and punctuation marks are not counted as words. Characters are shown twice, with and without spaces, because some platforms count with one and some with the other.

Reading and speaking time

Reading time is estimated at about 200 words per minute and speaking time at about 130 words per minute. These are approximations that help plan speeches, videos and articles, and they vary by reader and by text.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text saved anywhere?

No. The text stays in your browser and disappears when you close the page.

Does the counter work with long texts?

Yes, it handles very long texts quickly.

Why does my result differ from another program?

Programs treat links, symbols and numbers differently, so a small difference in the count is normal.
