Convert Dates Between Hijri and Gregorian

This tool converts a date between the Gregorian and Hijri calendars in both directions and shows the full weekday and month name. It relies on the Umm al-Qura calendar built into your browser, the official calendar used in Saudi Arabia.

This tool runs entirely in your browser, and what you type is never sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Choose the direction: Gregorian to Hijri or the reverse.
  2. Enter the date: pick a day from the calendar, or type the Hijri year and choose the month and day.
  3. The result appears instantly with full names and in numbers.

About the Umm al-Qura calendar

It is a calculated Hijri calendar that fixes month starts by announced astronomical rules, so it can be predicted years ahead. Religious month starts that depend on moon sighting, such as the start of Ramadan and Eid, can differ from it by a day in some countries, so for religious matters refer to the official authority in your country.

Where is conversion useful?

People need it for documents and transactions dated in Hijri, for finding when Islamic occasions fall in the Gregorian calendar, and for contract and rent dates in some countries.

Frequently asked questions

Does the result match moon sighting?

Not necessarily. The tool uses a calculated calendar rather than actual moon sighting, so it may differ by a day from announcements in some countries.

Why do I get an error on day 30?

Some Hijri months have only 29 days. If the month you picked has no day 30, choose 29.

Which years are supported?

Hijri years from about 1300 to 1600.
