Base64 Encode and Decode for Text

Base64 represents data with ordinary letters and digits that are easy to carry inside messages, links and text files. This tool converts text to Base64 and back, and handles Arabic and symbols correctly.

This tool runs entirely in your browser, and what you type is never sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Type the text or paste Base64 into the input box.
  2. Press “Encode to Base64” or “Decode”.
  3. Copy the output, or use it as the input for another operation.

Base64 is not encryption

Base64 does not protect data, and anyone can decode it easily. It is used to carry data in a compatible form, not to hide it. Do not rely on it to store passwords or sensitive information.

The URL-safe format

Regular Base64 contains the characters + and /, which have special meaning in links. The URL-safe form replaces them with - and _ and drops the trailing = signs, so it works inside links and parameters.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool support Arabic text?

Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8, so Arabic and emoji are encoded and decoded correctly.

Why does decoding sometimes fail?

It fails if the text is not valid Base64, or if the decoded data is not UTF-8 text, such as an image file.

Can I encode images?

To encode images use the Image to Base64 tool on this site.
