How to use
- Paste the original text in the first box and the edited text in the second.
- Choose line by line or word by word, and turn on ignore letter case or whitespace if you like.
- Read the result: green with + for additions, red with − for removals.
Line by line or word by word?
Line by line suits code, lists and config files because it shows which lines changed. Word by word suits articles and paragraphs because it shows small edits inside the same sentence.
How does the comparison work?
The tool finds the longest common sequence of lines or words between the two texts and treats everything else as added or removed. This is the same principle behind version-comparison tools. The similarity score estimates the shared part relative to the total of both texts.
Frequently asked questions
Are the texts saved?
No. The comparison happens in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
How much text is allowed?
Line mode handles thousands of lines. In word mode, texts under about three thousand words each are recommended, and a message appears if a text is longer.
Does it tell upper and lower case apart?
Yes by default, and you can turn on ignoring letter case and extra whitespace.
